I picked up a 1990 WMS BOP today. I called responding to a local Craig's list ad. I drove out to look at the machine expecting the worse, the price was pretty low on this machine.
It actually played OK, the lower LED display is out and it was filthy with a few bulbs out, but the rotating "head" mini play field still worked.
The Mrs. and I played quite a few games as soon as I got it home. The female robot has a sultry voice.

The bottom display was out when I bought it. I bought a direct replacement from Marco Specialties. Sweet replacement part. direct bolt in, no modification needed. Uses less power, runs cooler and dimmable.


It is cool to be able to get replacement parts for a toy made in 1991.
The dirt is ground into the paint, all the way to the primer coat. I was cleaning it with Mr Clean miracle erasers when I wore it through the paint. So I committed myself to a major touch up job. I was so PO'd I didn't take pictures of the damage. The touch up is going nicely. I am stripping the play field of most parts and cleaning everything.

That sure is a great looking machine. I have always loved that machine.
It looks like a lot of nice machines are going for a lot less than they are worth. There are a lot of people out of work who need money and a lot of these machines have been put in the back of the basement or garage for a while and they are looking for some extra cash.

the Bride is repainted and fully functional. I replaced a ball wire gate that reduces ball drains.
This was a lot of work repainting the playfield but it looks great and was very affordable.

she had a broken left ramp that caused some air balls. I made and installed a metal lane protector similar to the Cliffy protectors available for this machine. Seen in the upper left corner on this photo.

Nice job Gman! You guys really got me looking for a pinball. I'm to the point that I think I will post on Craigs list for a trade of my Pachislo's for a pinball.

I need to bring her in out of the cold. The mrs. wants me to swap her with Big Guns. Put her next to Twilight Zone.
she wants me to move BG out to the Garage or she wants me to sell it. Na, I just got BG working 100% Switch 54 error fixed!! I replaced the switch and diode today, no change. I then traced the wire across the underside of the PF. and found it was broken, a quick solder and it is working. This switch is pain for a casual game, if i took too much time launching a ball it would 'hunt' for the ball, activating all coils in series until a switch is activated. This would kick out any locked balls, really mess up a game like this. It was a cool cheater mutliball if you knew the secret.
I might move her in somewhere. the Xmas tree is gone, Hmm there is a spot.

the machine is a fun fun game

I have been playing this machine quite a bit lately, the weather is warm and it is out in the garage.
I am now a member of the Billionaire club. A good score on this machine is 30-60 million. Strangly when I scored the billion + points I was still not grand champion. The Machine has the billionaire club with 3 top scores and 5 regular scores (less than a billion). I like this game, I can do great one game and then get a terrible run the next. Most who play this game get very involved, lots of moaning and yelling as the ball makes sudden departures from the play field.
She sings and strobes the lights as I do well and announces "Oh NO!" when the last ball is drained.
The rotating face is probably the coolest and addicting feature on my machines, the player has to build up to the last face by shooting ramp shots. the last two faces have to be completed while keeping two balls in play. very crazy fast action.

Maybe my memory is faded and I am wrong but one of the things I recall about BOP is that it wasn't a very challenging game.

I do not like it when a pinball machine has a growing jackpot. You can have the greatest game of your life (in terms of length of play) and still not amass the points you might get based on one decent size jackpot.

The machine is quite challenging. I am just now getting to where I can amass points. Some games I can spend 5 balls and get only 2 million points.
What makes this so addicting is the 4 face's have to be built up, once built into a full human then the big points can be made. The machine will hold the first two stages through a lost ball but when the 2 ball multiball starts I have to keep both balls alive and score ramp shots, lose one and I start the building over.
I see more emotion from people playing this game than any other. the build up then loss is very involving.

Have you ever player the Machine? Give it a try if you get the chance.

This would not make a fair 'tournament style' machine. The scoring is too random. I know some of the other pinballs out there have tournament mode, where the bonus' and payouts come at a consistent sequence, most are normally set on a random sequence for normal coin op play.
I should check to see if this has a tourny mode, some newer ones can be set from a player controlled button but older models had to be setup from inside the coin door.
